Bose, the audio equipment-maker, will soon sell specialized seats called the “Bose Ride” for the trucking market. Designed to not only absorb but counteract the jarring road vibrations that emanate from heavy-duty trucks, the new high-tech seat aims to replace the conventional Air-Ride seat. The “Bose Ride” better alleviates driver fatigue and the head, neck, and back stress and stains that commonly affect truckers, according to the company.

The Wall Street Journal  describes the body-relieving “Bose Rode” like so: “Bose’s technology is a high-tech shock absorber with an electromagnetic piston that raises and lowers the driver’s seat in response to sensors that feel bumps, potholes and washboard roads through the truck floor. The system is designed to keep the driver’s head and torso level, even as the truck vibrates and bounces. Drivers still feel the road through the steering wheel and the foot pedals.”

The WSJ also reports that “the seat will cost under $10,000, although it is likely to be more expensive than the current state-of-the-art Air-Ride seats that cost less than $2,000.” Bose’s website says cost will be based on each fleet’s order volume and rollout requirements.
