When You Think of Spring, Think of Green

Spring will be here before you know it (even though Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on the 2nd)! It’s the season of renewal and regeneration… so what better time to replant the seeds of environmental conservation than now!

Want to find out first-hand the latest innovations in green trucking? Then think about attending the Green Truck Summit a two-day intensive educational conference on March 9 and 10 in St. Louis, Missouri. Hosted by 46th Annual National Truck Equipment Association Convention, day one of the Summit will focus on clean technologies for commercial vehicles, while day two will highlight alternative fuels for commercial vehicles. Plus, you have the opportunity to attend all of the breakout sessions you can handle on the subject of green fleet technology and fuels.

If it’s just a overview of the basics of green trucking that you’re interested in, check out the top ten ways to cut your fuel costs over at GreenTrucker.com.

According to GreenBiz.com and the Rocky Mountain Institute, most big trucks average only six miles per gallon. How can you make your fuel take you farther - and as a side benefit, conserve some bucks that otherwise would have gone to buying more gas? Number one on the list: “Train and educate drivers.”

“Hard acceleration, speeding and idling are the biggest causes of fuel waste. Initiate a training course for drivers, reward participation, reward efficiency and encourage seasoned drivers to participate in regular refresher courses,” GreenTrucker.com says.

Number five is, funnily enough, “Lose weight.” Hey, we hope that’s not a cheap shot at our waistline! “Carrying excess weight places unnecessary strain on your vehicle's engine and greatly affects its fuel efficiency. Removing as little as 100 pounds from your vehicle can significantly improve your gas mileage,” says the list.
