At Getloaded, we are focused on creating ease and opportunities for our members — and this commitment extends into our community involvement, as well.
On Saturday, June 12, a team of Getloaded employees volunteered at the Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games for the fourth straight year.
Throughout the year, Special Olympics Virginia provides athletic training and competition for individuals with intellectual abilities, culminating in the Summer Games. The annual event brings athletes together to compete in six sports: swimming, tennis, powerlifting, track & field, softball and bowling. Not only do these individuals have the opportunity to showcase their talents and athleticism, they enjoy the dignity and pride that come from giving your all in competition.
This year, our team helped more than a dozen wheelchair athletes make the most of their day. We escorted them to events including wheelchair races, the obstacle course and softball; presented them with their medals; and cheered them on as they competed.
And we weren’t the only ones cheering.
Special Olympics Virginia wanted to ensure the over 1200 athletes would have a large audience to witness their amazing accomplishments, so they created a “Be a Fan” campaign to drive attendance. As a result, more than 2000 people came out to support the athletes, which organizers called “the most enthusiastic Summer Games in our 36-year history.”
We truly enjoy giving back to the community and are proud to continue supporting Special Olympics in Virginia. And because we know our members are not only good drivers, they’re great people, we would love to hear:
