The following is the completely unauthoritative list of the top five greatest trucker flicks of all time. Yep, utterly subjective and off the top of our heads! Tell us if we get it instinctively right or wrong:

“Black Dog” (1998) - Starring the greatly missed Patrick Swayze, “Black Dog” is about an ex-con trucker who ultimately restores his good name as a driver when he heroically thwarts a plot to deliver illegal weapons ¾ which he at first unknowingly transports after he accepts the load-carrying job to pay off his debt.

“Smokey and the Bandit” (1977) - A ‘70’s classic, not just for truckers but for anyone who grew up on Dom DeLuise and ‘stache-sporting Burt Reynolds. The film’s plot revolves around hauling illegal freight (beer) from Texas to Georgia, while evading capture by a local Texas Sherriff (Jackie Gleason). Co-stars Sally Field. 

“Pee Wee’s Big Adventure” (1985) - Large Marge. ‘Nuff said.

“Breaker! Breaker!” (1977) - It seems everyone like this movie merely because Chuck Norris is in it. Another classic from the disco era, “Breaker! Breaker!” is an action film (natch) about a “truck driver [searching] for his brother, who has disappeared in a town run by a corrupt judge,” according to IMDB.com. It was Norris’s first major screen role.

“Alligator on the Zipper“ (2007) - This is a rogue pick, but there’s nothing like supporting an underdog. “Alligator on the Zipper” is a documentary that takes “a candid look into the rarely viewed lifestyle of women truckers.“ TheTrucker.com calls it “artfully crafted, capturing the beauty of each woman and the beauty of America as seen from the cab of a big rig.” This doc is a little hard to find, but you can at least watch the trailer here.
